MadSat Raft Team

 MadDash FUN Raft Race

We supply the raft, We supply the buoyancy aids. We supply the paddles. We give you some training and tips. You supply the crew (who promise to abide by these rules). We all have a good time!

What will happen on the day

Please park in the field adjacent to Hereford Rowing Club and aim to arrive before 12 noon. First race starts at 1pm but there will be a pre-race briefing beforehand that all crew members need to attend.

There will be 3 rafts supplied, each built to carry 4 people. These are MadSat Raft Team Training Rafts so are tried and tested. They are solid. They will not sink. Each raft will have a rudder fitted which is steered by 1 person in the crew pressing peddles – right to go right, left to go left.

The race course is from Hereford Rowing Club, upstream (yes, upstream, but there is very little flow) to the green Railway bridge, where you will need to turn the raft anti-clockwise (right to left) around a marker barrel floating in the water. Then paddle back downstream to the rowing club. The course is about 1/2 mile, so this is very much a sprint race. You will be timed. The 3 fastest crews will then go through to the final, where the winner takes all.

Each crew is encouraged to wear fancy dress to promote their organisation or group or simply to have fun. There will be a prize for best fancy dress crew. If you don't want to wear fancy dress, no problem, a T-shirt, leggings / shorts and trainers will do. Bring dry clothes to change into. You will get wet.

You will need to supply a crew of 4 people, 1 of which will need to steer the raft (it's very simple!)

You can change crew members between races, but everyone needs to have entered and paid the entry fee.

Minimum age for crew is 15 years unsupervised. Anyone under 15 years needs to be supervised by a responsible adult on a 1-on-1 basis on the raft at all times. Sorry, strictly no under 9 year olds.

ALL team members must have registered in the Start Field 1 hour before the race begins at 1pm and attended the pre-race briefing.

ALL of the crew must be able to swim.

ALL of the team must wear the buoyancy aid AT ALL TIMES ON THE WATER

ALL of the team must follow instructions given to them by the race organiser at any stage.

ALL of the team need to have submitted an entry fee and signed a disclaimer beforehand.

IF you are taking too long on the water, causing disruption, acting in an unsafe way or are having difficulties, you will be asked to return to the rowing club without completing the course.

ALL teams should remove their own rubbish from the Start Field and River.

Anyone caught not having fun will be splashed!!!
